About the Course

Diabetic Nursing

Diabetes care nurses are one the fundamental practitioners responsible for providing patient support and education toward self-care in a number of different contexts.

This course assists students in acquiring the basic knowledge related to diabetes nursing, including the skills needed to practice effectively as a Diabetes nurse in various health care environments.

The students study the etiology, risk factors, pathophysiology, clinical features, treatment, inter-professional collaboration, psychosocial care, and nursing care of patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and their family members or caregivers.

This course is particularly concerned with a more fundamental aspect of diabetic nursing, which is its person-centeredness, hence, assuring the care of persons with diabetes irrespective of age ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics in acute, chronic, aged care, disability, and rehabilitation settings.

The students will be expected to take part in face-to-face and online discussions related to simulated case studies and evaluations to enable learners integrate complex information and skills for effective diabetic nursing in the hospital setting.

The Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing also serves as a pathway towards a Master of Nursing qualification for those wishing to study in Australia on campus or by distance learning.

Learning Point

Students will Learn how to:

Identify causes, risk factors, pathophysiology, manifestations, complications, inter-professional care, and nursing care of DM (type 1 and 2) for the adult client.
Conduct and apply evidence-based, person-centered assessment and management of nursing care for diabetic and non-diabetic patient type 1 and 2 disorders and conditions.  

Analyze and evaluate the relevance of the person-centered care philosophy to the individuals’ and families’ needs in acute care, chronic care, aged care, and rehabilitation settings.
